About Our School

Welcome to Cedarbrook K-8 Center

Cedarbrook K-8 Center is a Kindergarten through Eighth grade school. It is located in the beautiful Van Wyck Brooks historic district of the City of Plainfield. Cedarbrook services three smaller learning communities under the umbrella of the K-8 Model. The Primary School services students in Kindergarten through Grade 2. The Elementary School services students in Grades 3 through 5, and the Preparatory School services Grades 6 through 8. Currently, our school has enrolled well over 680+ students from an ethnically diverse student population representative of the demographics of our city. In addition to receiving instruction in the core subjects, students receive instruction in Art, Instrumental and Vocal Music, Physical Education, and World Language. Students in the upper grades (6-8) are offered elective courses in Robotics, Coding, Financial Literacy, Keyboarding and AVID. Cedarbrook’s primary grades use the reading and writing workshop model to help children grow as readers, writers, speakers, and independent thinkers. Some resources include Wonders/Maravillas, and Scholastic/Fountas & Pinnell guided reading texts. To address the foundational skills, Orton-Gillingham materials are incorporated into daily lessons. Digital texts and resources include Newsela, Reading A-Z, Scholastic Literacy Pro, and Moby Max. Cedarbook has adopted the Ready Math programs for students in grades K-5.

The upper grades use HMH into Literature and Scholastic Literacy Pro, Discovery Ed Social Studies Tech-Book, Discovery Math Tech-Book and Discovery Science Tech-Book. The school fully utilizes instructional technology such as IPads, Smart Boards and other innovative technologies to enhance the instructional curricula. Along with academics, the Preparatory School students have the opportunity to participate on various middle school athletic teams. Students also participate in various clubs and activities. Parents are encouraged to join the Parents and Teachers Together (P.A.T.T.) organization. This group comprised of parents and staff promotes partnership and home to school connections. Our mission at Cedarbrook is a follows:

Together with all participants, we at Cedarbrook K-8 center aim to inspire and empower students to excel academically and socially, to foster an environment of trust, respect and collaboration with the Cedarbrook community.
